Experience Kraftwerk Mitte

Kraftwerk Mitte, located in Dresden’s dynamic Mitte district, began life as a municipal power plant (“Kraftwerk” meaning power station) built in 1912-1914. Decommissioned in the 1990s, it was creatively repurposed into a multifaceted cultural centre and music venue, opening in its current form in 2000. The building retains significant architectural elements of its industrial past – exposed brickwork, high ceilings, and original machinery – contributing to its unique atmosphere.

Primarily a venue for electronic music (techno, house, drum & bass), Kraftwerk Mitte also hosts concerts spanning indie, rock, and alternative genres. It's renowned for its powerful sound system and adaptable spaces: a large main hall ("Turbinenhalle") capable of holding over 800 people, alongside smaller club areas like the "Generator" and an open-air courtyard used during warmer months.

Beyond music, the complex houses art studios, workshops, and a cinema. Crucially, Kraftwerk Mitte played a vital role in re-establishing Dresden’s post-reunification club culture and remains a central hub for alternative arts and music within Saxony.
