Het Groot Verzet, located in Lint, Belgium, began as a clandestine squat in 1983, evolving from a hub for alternative youth culture into a fully-fledged, legally recognised music venue by 1995. Housed within a former metal factory dating back to the early 20th century, the building’s industrial architecture – high ceilings, exposed brickwork, and concrete floors – contributes significantly to its raw and intimate atmosphere.

Initially a focal point for punk and hardcore bands, Het Groot Verzet has broadened its scope to encompass diverse genres including rock, indie, metal (particularly doom and stoner), electronic music, and occasionally experimental performances. It’s particularly known for hosting both established international acts and supporting emerging Belgian talent.

Unique to Het Groot Verzet is its strong DIY ethos maintained throughout its history; it continues to be largely run by volunteers. The venue boasts excellent acoustics despite its industrial setting and offers a relatively small capacity (around 400 standing), fostering a close connection between artists and audience. It holds significant cultural importance as one of the longest-running independent music venues in the Antwerp province, consistently championing alternative music scenes for over four decades.
