Experience First Avenue
First Avenue, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is an iconic, multi-level music venue and cultural landmark. Originally opened as a Greyhound Bus Depot in 1931, it was transformed into a music club in 1970. Its distinctive exterior, retaining much of the original Art Deco facade, immediately identifies it. Inside, the main room boasts a relatively flat general admission floor and a balcony offering varied sightlines.
Famously featured in Prince’s 1984 film *Purple Rain*, First Avenue propelled the artist to international stardom and remains deeply connected to his legacy – stars are painted on the wall commemorating artists who played there, including Prince. Beyond Prince, the venue has hosted countless influential acts across genres like rock, punk, new wave, hip-hop, and alternative including The Replacements, Nirvana, and Lizzo.
First Avenue isn’t just one room; it comprises several spaces – the Mainroom (largest capacity), the 7th St Entry (smaller, intimate space focusing on emerging artists), and the Turf Club (a dedicated live music bar). This multi-stage setup allows for diverse programming nightly.
