The Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham opened in 1907 as the Cheltenham Opera House, a grand Edwardian theatre designed by Ernest Rudge. Originally built for opera and variety performances, it underwent significant refurbishment in the 1960s, emerging as a repertory theatre and adopting its current name, The Everyman. While retaining much of its original ornate architectural detail – including a stunning proscenium arch and decorative plasterwork – the building boasts a modern, comfortable interior following further renovations in 2008.

Today, The Everyman hosts a diverse programme encompassing theatre (drama, comedy, musicals), dance, live music (spanning genres like jazz, blues, folk and tribute acts), and family entertainment. It’s become a key venue within Gloucestershire’s cultural landscape, regularly attracting nationally touring productions alongside locally produced shows.

Unique features include its intimate auditorium seating around 680 people, fostering a close connection between performers and audience. A dedicated studio space allows for smaller-scale performances and workshops. The theatre also houses a lively bar and restaurant offering pre-show dining options, enhancing the overall experience. It consistently champions local talent alongside established names.
