Dockweiler State Beach, located in Playa del Rey, Los Angeles County, is unique among California beaches for allowing RV camping *directly* on the sand. Originally a landing strip during the 1920s, serving as one of the first west coast airports, it transitioned to beach recreation after the closure of the airfield in 1941. While not a dedicated music venue in the traditional sense, Dockweiler has hosted numerous large-scale events including KAABOO by the Sea (a spin-off of the larger KAABOO festival) in 2019 featuring acts like Billy Joel and Kings of Leon.

Its proximity to LAX means planes frequently fly overhead – a distinctive (and sometimes disruptive) feature. The beach’s flat expanse makes it suitable for large stage setups, though sound restrictions are common due to residential areas and airport noise. Music genres showcased tend towards rock, pop, and electronic dance music when events are held. Unlike amphitheaters or clubs, Dockweiler offers an open-air, beachfront experience directly adjacent to camping facilities; a rare combination that contributes to its appeal for festival-goers and differentiates it from typical concert locations.
