Experience De Woudkapel
De Woudkapel, located in Bilthoven, Netherlands, began life as a chapel for the adjacent Groot Claesgoed estate in 1878, designed in a Neo-Gothic style by architect Johannes van der Ster. Consecrated as a Roman Catholic church, it served the local community until 1996 when it was deconsecrated and transformed into a unique music venue.
Retaining its original stained-glass windows and ecclesiastical architecture, the intimate space offers exceptional acoustics highly valued by musicians. De Woudkapel primarily hosts performances spanning jazz, world music, classical (particularly chamber music), and singer-songwriter genres – often showcasing experimental and innovative artists. It’s known for its focus on high-quality sound and an attentive listening environment.
Unlike typical concert halls, its former religious function creates a distinctly atmospheric experience. The venue seats approximately 120 people, fostering a close connection between performers and audience. De Woudkapel has become a significant hub within the Utrecht region’s independent music scene, regularly featuring both established and emerging talent and hosting recordings for national radio. A small bar area provides refreshments during events.
