Experience Dansepavillonen

Dansepavillonen, nestled on Østre Anlæg in Copenhagen, is a historic open-air dance pavilion dating back to 1905. Originally built as a venue for public dances and social gatherings during a period of burgeoning urban life, it was designed by architect Holger Møller. The pavilion’s distinctive architecture features a charming, ornate wooden structure with a central bandstand and surrounding open space – reminiscent of a traditional bandstand design popular at the turn of the century.

Throughout its history, Dansepavillonen has hosted diverse performances, evolving from ballroom dancing and military bands to contemporary jazz, indie, and electronic music. It gained significant prominence in the 1960s as a key location for early rock and beat music in Denmark, fostering a vibrant counter-cultural scene.

Unlike many enclosed venues, its open-air setting offers a unique atmosphere, particularly during summer concerts. While smaller than major concert halls, it provides an intimate experience often lacking elsewhere. Today it continues to function as a popular event space managed by Copenhagen Municipality offering free concerts throughout the summer months, maintaining its legacy as a cornerstone of Copenhagen’s musical heritage and public life.
