The Chelsea Living Room, located at 498 Broome Street in New York City, operated as a significant hub for acoustic music and spoken word performances from 1984 until its closure in 2012. Founded by Bob Feld, the venue quickly became known for its intimate atmosphere and dedication to showcasing emerging artists alongside established names. The space itself was deliberately designed to resemble a comfortable living room, eschewing traditional concert staging in favor of a more relaxed and conversational setting.

Architecturally, it occupied a ground-floor space within a historic cast-iron building in the SoHo neighborhood. The venue’s sound system, while modest, was highly regarded for its clarity and suitability for singer-songwriters and folk musicians. Frequent performers included Suzanne Vega, Jeff Buckley (who held a regular Tuesday night residency), and Shawn Colvin, among many others. The Chelsea Living Room fostered a strong sense of community amongst both performers and audience members. It became particularly associated with the Greenwich Village folk music tradition while also embracing blues, jazz, and poetry readings. Following Feld's death in 2010, the venue continued operation under new management until its eventual closing.
