Experience Cafe Wha?

Cafe Wha?, located in New York City’s Greenwich Village at 115 Macdougal Street, is a historic music venue deeply woven into the fabric of American rock ‘n’ roll. Originally opened in 1968 as a folk and blues coffeehouse, it quickly became a pivotal launching pad for emerging artists during the counterculture movement. Before achieving superstardom, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Janis Joplin all graced its intimate stage – a space originally built *below* the street level, creating its unique basement club atmosphere.

The venue retains much of its original 19th-century brick architecture, adding to its authentic, vintage charm. While initially a folk hub, Cafe Wha? now hosts a diverse range of genres, including rock, blues, jazz, and contemporary artists. Notably, it’s one of the few continually operating venues from the 1960s still showcasing live music nightly. Beyond live performances, Cafe Wha? offers a full bar and a restaurant, frequently hosting open mic nights, and maintaining its legacy as a cornerstone of the Village's vibrant music scene. Its enduring presence solidifies its status as a living museum of musical history.
