Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the space underwent several iterations, including periods as a speakeasy during Prohibition and later as various bars and clubs. The current incarnation, focusing on live music, opened in 2018 following extensive renovations.
Architecturally, the venue retains elements of its historic structure, including exposed brick walls and original wooden beams. It’s a relatively intimate space with a capacity of approximately 150 people. The Bleecker Bell primarily features Americana, roots rock, country, and blues artists; it has also hosted performances spanning jazz and singer-songwriter genres.
