Experience Aula Magna

Aula Magna, located on the Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) campus in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, is a prominent concert and event hall inaugurated in 1975. Designed by architect Paul Felix, it’s renowned for its striking Brutalist architecture – a concrete structure intentionally designed to integrate with the surrounding landscape. The hall’s primary function is as an auditorium for university ceremonies, but it’s widely used as a major performance venue.

Its acoustics are particularly noteworthy, making it ideal for classical music, jazz, and world music performances; it also hosts larger-scale pop and rock concerts. Aula Magna boasts a capacity of over 600 seated attendees and features a substantial stage capable of accommodating large orchestras and ensembles.

Historically, the venue has hosted numerous internationally acclaimed artists and serves as a key location for the Festival de Wallonie Musique chamber music festival. Unlike many venues prioritizing ornate decoration, Aula Magna’s aesthetic focuses on functional design and sound quality. Its connection to the university fosters a vibrant cultural atmosphere and positions it as central to student life and the wider Louvain-la-Neuve arts scene.
