Experience Jagjaguwar
Jagjaguwar is an independent record label founded in Bloomington, Indiana, in 1996 by Chris Record. Initially focused on releasing recordings by local Indiana artists, the label gained prominence through its early releases with singer-songwriter Dean & Britta. A pivotal moment arrived with the 2005 signing of Bon Iver (Justin Vernon), whose *For Emma, Forever Ago* achieved critical acclaim and commercial success after initial online distribution.
The label’s roster has consistently featured artists exploring experimental and emotionally resonant sounds. Notable signings include Sharon Van Etten, whose albums *Tramp* (2011) and *Are We There* (2014) were released via Jagjaguwar, as well as Foxygen, Black Mountain, and Sudan Archives. Jagjaguwar is recognized for its commitment to artist development and a distinctive aesthetic encompassing both musical curation and visual presentation.
While not adhering to a single genre, the label frequently showcases artists working within indie rock, folk, experimental electronic music, and psychedelic soul. Jagjaguwar has received multiple Grammy Award nominations through its artists' work and continues to operate as an independent entity committed to long-term artist relationships.
