The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra is scheduled to perform at the Philharmonie de Paris on September 21, 2026. Founded in 1999 by Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said, the orchestra brings together young musicians from Israel, Palestine, and several Arab countries. Its musical style is rooted in the classical repertoire, encompassing works from various periods – Baroque to contemporary – but frequently incorporates influences reflecting the diverse cultural backgrounds of its members. The orchestra is known for its interpretations emphasizing dialogue and understanding through music, often performing works that highlight shared musical heritage alongside pieces representing individual traditions.
The Philharmonie de Paris, inaugurated in January 2015, is a major concert hall complex situated in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. Designed by Jean Nouvel, it features a main concert hall, *La Grande Salle*, renowned for its acoustics and vineyard-style seating arrangement which places the audience closer to the performers. The complex also includes smaller performance spaces, exhibition areas and educational facilities. It stands as a significant addition to Paris’s cultural landscape, aiming to be accessible to a broad audience while showcasing both established and emerging artists across a wide range of musical genres.
