The Musiktheater Linz opened in 2013 and is a significant venue for opera, operetta, musicals, and concerts in Austria. Designed by architects Mecanoo and local firm IGA Gabriele Lechner Architekten, it replaced the older Landestheater Linz as the primary performing arts space for these genres within the city. The building is notable for its innovative “cloud” – a suspended steel structure covered in reflective panels – which serves both an aesthetic and acoustic purpose. It boasts a main auditorium seating approximately 999 patrons alongside smaller studio spaces used for more intimate performances and rehearsals. The Musiktheater is part of the Landes-Theater Linz organization which encompasses drama, musical theatre and concert performances.
