Víkingur Ólafsson is a contemporary Icelandic pianist recognized for his distinctive interpretations of classical and modern repertoire, often characterized by clarity, precision, and a subtle emotional depth. He frequently explores the intersection of minimalist composers like Philip Glass and contemporary works alongside established masters such as Bach and Beethoven. His recordings have garnered significant critical acclaim and awards, establishing him as a leading figure in classical music performance.
The Philharmonie de Paris, inaugurated in January 2015, is a major concert venue located in the Parc de la Villette, 19th arrondissement of Paris. Designed by Jean Nouvel, the complex comprises two main halls: the Grande Salle Pierre Boulez, known for its adjustable acoustics and seating capacity of approximately 2,400; and the smaller Studio Erma Metzler. The Philharmonie de Paris represents France’s first purpose-built concert hall designed specifically for acoustic excellence and is home to the Orchestre de Paris and the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra. It aims to be a national center for musical creation and education, offering a diverse program encompassing classical music, contemporary works, jazz, and world music.
