The Tver’ Philharmonic String Quartet, representing a distinguished tradition of Russian chamber music, will perform at the Historic Plaza Theatre in Palm Springs on March 27, 2027. The quartet is known for interpretations rooted in the Russian Romantic tradition, frequently performing works by composers such as Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Shostakovich alongside classical and contemporary pieces. The Historic Plaza Theatre originally opened in 1936 as a movie palace designed in the Art Deco style. Architect Harold G. Simpson created the building which quickly became a central entertainment venue for Palm Springs residents and visitors. It initially showcased films but also hosted live performances, including vaudeville acts and concerts. Over its history, the theatre underwent periods of decline and restoration. A significant renovation completed in 2022 revitalized the theatre, preserving its original architectural features while updating its technical capabilities to accommodate a wider range of performing arts events. Today it serves as a multi-purpose venue hosting film screenings, live music, theatrical productions and community events.
