Troy Andrews, known professionally as Trombone Shorty, is scheduled to perform at the Boulder Theater in Boulder, Colorado on August 11, 2026. Andrews is a contemporary jazz and funk musician rooted in New Orleans music traditions. His style blends elements of jazz, funk, rock, hip-hop, and soul, often featuring virtuosic trombone playing alongside trumpet and vocals. He began performing professionally at a young age, heavily influenced by his uncle, New Orleans jazz musician Ernest Andrews, and gained recognition through touring with Lenny Kravitz.
The Boulder Theater originally opened in 1909 as the Boulder Opera House, primarily hosting vaudeville acts and traveling shows. Over its history it transitioned through various uses including a movie house during the mid-20th century. In 1973 it was purchased and renovated to become a live performance venue. The building underwent significant restoration work completed in 2013 which preserved its historic architectural details while updating its technical capabilities. It’s known for its intimate setting and varied programming encompassing national touring acts across multiple genres. The theater is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains a central fixture in Boulder’s cultural landscape.
