Tortoise will perform at Zebulon L.A. in Los Angeles on August 2nd, 2026. The band is recognized as pioneers of post-rock, blending elements of jazz, dub, electronica, and minimalism into largely instrumental compositions. Formed in Chicago in 1990, Tortoise distinguishes itself through its use of unconventional instrumentation – vibraphone, marimba, and various percussion instruments are prominent – alongside traditional rock setups. Their albums often feature extended tracks and a focus on texture and atmosphere rather than conventional song structures. They’ve released recordings on labels including Thrax Records, a label co-founded by members of the band itself.

Zebulon L.A. is a performance venue and bar located in the Frogtown neighborhood of Los Angeles. Originally established in Brooklyn, New York in 2008 by owner/programmer Marc Ribot and others, the Los Angeles location opened in 2023. It aims to recreate the intimate and artist-focused environment of the original Zebulon, emphasizing live music across diverse genres including jazz, experimental music, and independent rock.
