Tortoise will perform at the Teatro Comunale in Vicenza, Italy on November 11, 2026. The band is recognized as pioneers of post-rock, a genre characterized by its exploration of texture and dynamic range, often employing instrumental compositions that move beyond traditional rock structures. Their music frequently incorporates elements of jazz, dub, minimalism and electronica, utilizing a diverse array of instruments including vibraphone, guitars, drums, and electronic processing. Formed in Chicago in 1990, Tortoise has released numerous critically acclaimed albums and significantly influenced subsequent instrumental music.

The Teatro Comunale di Vicenza opened in 1845 following a design competition; the final project was a collaborative effort between architect Giovanni Battista Cignaroli and Francesco Muttoni. It is considered a significant example of Neoclassical architecture adapted for theatrical use within the Veneto region. Originally built on the site of a former monastery, it underwent substantial restoration work in the late 20th century to address structural issues and modernize facilities while preserving its historical character. The theatre primarily hosts opera, ballet, concerts and theatrical performances and serves as an important cultural venue for the city of Vicenza.
