Tortoise, the Chicago-based instrumental band, is scheduled to perform at Star@ Culture Centre Dream Hall in Shanghai, China on August 27, 2026. The group is recognized for pioneering a genre often described as post-rock, though their sound incorporates elements of jazz, dub, electronica, and minimalism. Formed in 1990, Tortoise is known for its complex compositions, unconventional instrumentation – frequently utilizing vibraphone and atypical percussion – and a focus on texture and atmosphere over traditional song structures. They have released numerous critically acclaimed albums and significantly influenced the development of instrumental music.

Star@ Culture Centre Dream Hall is a prominent performance venue located within the Star@ Culture Centre complex in Shanghai’s Pudong New Area. Opened in 2023, the Dream Hall is designed specifically for medium to large-scale concerts and live performances with a capacity of approximately 1,800 attendees.
