Tortoise, the Chicago-based instrumental band, is scheduled to perform at Queen Margaret Union (Qmu) in Glasgow on November 1st, 2026. The group is widely recognized as pioneers of post-rock, blending elements of jazz, dub, electronica, and minimalist composition. Their sound often features repetitive structures, intricate arrangements, and a focus on texture and atmosphere rather than traditional song forms. Formed in 1990, Tortoise has released numerous critically acclaimed albums and significantly influenced subsequent generations of instrumental musicians.

Queen Margaret Union is a student union building located in the West End of Glasgow, Scotland. Established in 1890, it originally served as a social and recreational hub for students of the University of Glasgow’s Queen Margaret College – which focused on the education of women. While now open to all University of Glasgow students, it retains a distinct character and history. The Qmu is known for its diverse program of events including live music, theatre, comedy and club nights. Its main hall has hosted numerous prominent musical acts over the years and is valued for its intimate setting and unique architectural features dating back to its Victorian origins.
