Tortoise, the Chicago-based instrumental band, is scheduled to perform at the Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Centre (pjpac) in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia on September 2nd, 2026. The group is recognized for pioneering a style often described as post-rock, though their music incorporates elements of jazz, dub, electronica, and ambient music. Formed in 1990, Tortoise is known for its complex compositions, unconventional instrumentation – frequently including vibraphone and marimba – and a deliberate avoidance of traditional rock song structures. They have released numerous critically acclaimed albums throughout their career and are influential within instrumental music circles.

The pjpac itself opened in 2016 and functions as a multi-purpose venue dedicated to performing arts. It’s located within the 1 Utama E shopping mall complex. The centre houses two primary performance spaces: a 644-seat proscenium theatre known as the PJPAC Theatre, and a smaller, more flexible black box studio space called the Pentas 1.
