The Walker Theatre originally opened in 1910 as the Bijou Theatre and was a prominent vaudeville house. Following a period of decline in the mid-20th century, the theatre underwent extensive renovations completed in 1989 and was renamed The Walker Theatre in honor of former mayor and community benefactor Robert Walker. It is currently operated by the City of Chattanooga and serves as a multi-purpose venue hosting concerts, theatrical productions, films, and other live events. The theatre is recognized for its restored early 20th-century architecture and intimate atmosphere with a seating capacity of approximately 1200.
