Tomeka Reid is a cellist, composer, and educator whose work spans jazz, improvised music, and contemporary classical forms. Her musical approach is characterized by a deeply personal and expressive style, often incorporating extended techniques on the cello alongside traditional jazz vocabulary. Reid frequently explores themes of identity, history, and social justice within her compositions and improvisations. She has collaborated with a diverse range of artists including Anthony Braxton, Roscoe Mitchell, and Henry Threadgill, and leads her own ensembles such as the Tomeka Reid Quartet.
