Jazz Concerts in Cella Monte

Experience Tom Skinner live on August 28th

Tom Skinner, known for his work as the drummer with the Mercury Prize-winning band Sons of Kemet and his collaborative projects with artists like The Smile and Shabaka Hutchings, will perform at the Cimitero di Cella Monte in Cella Monte, Italy on August 28, 2026. Skinner’s solo work typically blends jazz drumming foundations with elements of electronic music, breakbeats, and spoken word, creating a dynamic and often improvisational soundscape. His compositions frequently explore themes of memory, place, and personal narrative.

The Cimitero di Cella Monte is a unique burial ground situated within the abandoned hilltop village of Cella Monte in the Piedmont region of Italy. Originally constructed in the early 20th century as a communal cemetery for the village residents, it fell into disuse as the population declined following landslides in the 1960s which led to its eventual abandonment. The cemetery is notable for its architectural style – a series of small, individual family chapels built into a terraced hillside – and its atmospheric setting overlooking the surrounding landscape. In recent years it has gained attention as an unconventional venue for artistic performances due to its evocative qualities and unusual acoustics.
