Experience Tinariwen live on September 14th
Tinariwen is scheduled to perform at Théâtre Rialto in Montreal, Canada on September 14, 2026. The group originates from the Sahara Desert region of Mali, and their music blends traditional Tuareg musical elements with influences from Western rock and blues. Often described as “desert blues,” their sound features hypnotic guitar riffs, call-and-response vocals—typically in Tamasheq—and percussion that reflects their nomadic heritage. Formed in the late 1970s amongst Tuareg refugees in Libyan camps, Tinariwen’s music initially served as a means of cultural preservation and political expression relating to the struggles of the Tuareg people. They gained international recognition in the early 2000s and have since released several critically acclaimed albums.
Théâtre Rialto, located on Boulevard Saint-Laurent in Montreal’s Quartier Latin, opened in 1926 as a cinema. Originally designed by architect Joseph-Alcide Picard, it showcased primarily French-language films. Over its history, it transitioned through periods as a cinema, a television studio (for Radio-Canada), and eventually a performance venue.
