The Hollywood Theatre originally opened in 1935 as a neighbourhood movie house. Designed in the Streamline Moderne style by architect H.H. Caple, it served as a primary cinema for the Kitsilano area for several decades. Facing potential demolition in the 1980s due to declining attendance and changing entertainment trends, it was saved by community efforts and subsequently transitioned into a multi-purpose venue.

Today, the Hollywood Theatre functions as a non-profit cultural hub hosting independent film screenings, live music performances, theatrical productions, and community events. It maintains much of its original Art Deco interior detailing including its distinctive marquee and seating arrangement contributing to its historical character and intimate atmosphere. The venue has a capacity of approximately 340 people.
