Experience The Thing live on July 11th
The Thing, a Danish-Norwegian free jazz quartet formed in 2007, will be performing at Parkway Field in Pleasantville on July 11, 2026. The group is known for its intensely energetic and improvisational performances, characterized by extended instrumental explorations and a distinctive sound stemming from the unusual instrumentation of two double bassists, a drummer, and a saxophonist. Their music often defies conventional jazz structures, incorporating elements of noise, rock, and avant-garde composition. The band members are Mats Gustafsson (saxophone), Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (bass), Anders Miland (bass), and Paulo Alcoutinho (drums).
Parkway Field is a publicly owned outdoor venue located within the Village of Pleasantville. Originally constructed in the 1930s as a Works Progress Administration project during the Great Depression, it served primarily as a baseball field for local leagues and school teams for much of its history. In recent decades, the field has been increasingly utilized for community events including concerts, festivals, and farmers markets. Its capacity is estimated to be around 2,500 people for concert-style setups.
