The band, led by John Darnielle, is known for its prolific output and distinctive indie folk-influenced songwriting. Initially recording primarily on cassette tapes using a Panasonic RQ-321 recorder, their sound evolved from lo-fi, intensely personal narratives to incorporate fuller band arrangements while retaining Darnielle’s lyrical focus on character studies and emotionally resonant storytelling. Their music often explores themes of isolation, faith, and the struggles of everyday life.

Belterra Casino Resort & Spa is located along the Ohio River in Florence, Indiana. Originally opened in 2001 as Grand Victoria Casino, it underwent rebranding as Belterra in 2005 following its acquisition by Pinnacle Entertainment. The property features a casino floor with various gaming options, hotel accommodations, multiple dining venues, and a championship golf course. In 2022, it was acquired by Regional Growth Operations (RGO), who have since invested in renovations and upgrades to the resort facilities. The venue hosts a variety of entertainment events alongside its casino operations.
