Rialto Theatre opened in 1927 as a vaudeville house and movie palace. Originally designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style by architect Leo J. Mahoney, it served as a prominent entertainment venue for Tucson for several decades. Following a period of decline and closure in the 1970s, the theatre underwent extensive restoration efforts spearheaded by the Friends of the Rialto organization.

Today, the Rialto Theatre functions as a multi-purpose performance space hosting concerts, theatrical productions, film screenings and community events. It’s known for its intimate atmosphere and historical architectural details retained during renovations; it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
