The Sheldon Theatre, originally known as the Red Wing Opera House, opened in 1904. It was designed by the architectural firm of Lieur & Swenson and quickly became a significant cultural hub for the region. Initially hosting vaudeville acts, traveling theatrical companies, and musical performances, the theatre experienced periods of decline in the mid-20th century before undergoing a substantial restoration completed in 1998. The restored Sheldon now functions as a performing arts center presenting a diverse range of events including concerts, theatre productions, films, and community events. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and retains many of its original architectural details including ornate plasterwork and period lighting fixtures.
