Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, known professionally as Sting, will perform at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 14, 2026. Sting’s musical style blends elements of new wave, soft rock, jazz, and world music. He rose to prominence as the principal songwriter, vocalist and bassist for the rock band The Police in the late 1970s and early 1980s. His solo career began in 1985, showcasing sophisticated songwriting and lyrical depth with hits spanning genres.

The Orpheum Theatre originally opened in 1921 as a vaudeville house and movie palace designed by architects Lieff & Kieley. It is noted for its opulent interior featuring ornate plasterwork, a grand staircase, and a massive chandelier. Throughout its history, the Orpheum hosted a wide variety of performances including travelling theatrical productions, musical acts and film screenings.

In the 1980s, facing potential demolition due to declining attendance and changing entertainment preferences, the theatre was saved through a community preservation effort spearheaded by the Hennepin Performing Arts Center (now Hennepin Theatre Trust).
