Experience Stephan Heuberger live on September 5th
Stephan Heuberger, a Swiss composer and organist, will perform a concert at Lukaskirche in Lucerne on September 5th, 2026. Heuberger’s musical style is characterized by a contemporary approach to sacred music, often incorporating elements of improvisation and exploring the timbral possibilities of the organ. His compositions frequently draw inspiration from both traditional church music forms and modern harmonic languages, resulting in works that are both deeply spiritual and intellectually engaging. He is known for his nuanced interpretations and innovative use of registration.
Lukaskirche, dedicated to Saint Luke, holds a significant place in Lucerne's religious and cultural history. Originally built as a Catholic church in 1493-1501, it transitioned to Protestant use during the Reformation in 1534. The current building largely reflects renovations undertaken between 1936-1938 by architect Karl Indermaur, which restored its Gothic character while adapting it to modern liturgical needs. The church is notable for its stained-glass windows created by August Suter and its acoustics which are particularly well-suited for vocal and organ music.
