Montalvo Arts Center is a historic estate and center for the arts located in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Originally built as a summer home for railroad baron James Phelan in 1923, the property was designed by architect Julia Morgan, also known for her work on Hearst Castle. In 1959, Phelan bequeathed the estate to the public as a cultural center. Today, Montalvo hosts a diverse range of artistic programs including visual arts exhibitions, performing arts presentations, and artist residencies.
