Formed in Buffalo, New York in 1974, Spyro Gyra is known for its instrumental compositions and extensive use of saxophone, vibraphone, and synthesizers. The Uptown Theater originally opened in 1929 as a grand movie palace designed in a lavishly ornate style reflecting the atmospheric theaters popular at the time. It showcased both films and live vaudeville acts during its early years. Following a period of decline and closure in the mid-20th century, the theater underwent a comprehensive restoration completed in 2017. The restored venue now functions as a multi-purpose entertainment space hosting concerts, theatrical performances, comedy shows, and other events while retaining much of its original architectural detail including ornate plasterwork and a large domed ceiling.
