Experience Spanish Harlem Orchestra live on August 27th
Spanish Harlem Orchestra will perform at the Lensic Performing Arts Centre in Santa Fe, New Mexico on August 27, 2026. The ensemble is recognized for its dedication to preserving and performing traditional salsa dura – a hard-hitting, rhythmically complex style of salsa rooted in the sounds of 1970s New York City. Their music features a large ensemble including multiple percussionists, horns, and vocalists, emphasizing improvisation and a vibrant, energetic stage presence. Founded by pianist Ricky González in 2000, the orchestra aims to recapture the energy and spirit of the golden age of salsa.
The Lensic Performing Arts Centre occupies a historic building originally constructed in 1931 as a movie palace. Designed in the Pueblo Deco architectural style by architect George E. Grenville, it served as Santa Fe’s primary cinema for several decades. Facing potential demolition in the early 2000s, a community-led fundraising effort secured its restoration and conversion into a multi-disciplinary performing arts venue.
