Experience Spanish Harlem Orchestra live on August 21st
Spanish Harlem Orchestra is scheduled to perform at La Maraka in Mexico City on August 21, 2026. The ensemble is recognized for its dedication to preserving and performing traditional salsa dura, a style characterized by its powerful brass section, complex rhythmic arrangements, and energetic improvisations rooted in the sounds of 1970s New York salsa. Founded in 2000 by pianist Ricky González, the orchestra aims to recapture the energy and authenticity of that era, drawing heavily from influences like Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, and Willie Colón.
La Maraka is a well-established concert venue located in the Xochimilco borough of Mexico City. Originally constructed as a bullring – *plaza de toros* – in 1958, it was later repurposed as a music venue during the 1990s. It has since become known for hosting a diverse range of musical performances, particularly those focused on Latin American genres including salsa, cumbia, and rock en español. The venue retains some architectural elements from its original function while accommodating larger audiences for concerts and events. Its open-air design contributes to a distinctive atmosphere for live performances.
