Shelly Berg is a pianist and composer known for his distinctive blend of jazz, classical, and pop influences. His musical style frequently incorporates sophisticated harmonic structures and improvisational elements within accessible melodic frameworks, often described as “conversational jazz.” He has released numerous albums as a performer and arranger, and is also a highly regarded educator, currently serving as Dean of the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.

The Irvine Barclay Theatre, located on the campus of the University of California, Irvine, opened in 1990. Designed by Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo Architects, it is recognized for its excellent acoustics and intimate setting. The theatre primarily hosts performances in dance, music (spanning classical to contemporary), and theatre. It serves as a central cultural venue for both the university community and residents of Orange County.

The theatre’s design intentionally avoids a traditional horseshoe shape, opting instead for a modified shoebox configuration considered optimal for sound projection. It features 785 seats and has hosted a wide range of nationally and internationally acclaimed artists throughout its history. The venue is managed by UCI’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts.
