Seong-Jin Cho is a South Korean classical pianist recognized for his poetic and nuanced interpretations, often described as possessing both technical brilliance and a deeply expressive musicality. His playing is frequently noted for its clarity, refined touch, and a compelling emotional depth, particularly within the Romantic repertoire. He gained international acclaim after winning the First Prize at the 2015 International Chopin Piano Competition.
The performance is scheduled to take place at Hill Auditorium on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor. Completed in 1913, Hill Auditorium is a prominent performance venue renowned for its exceptional acoustics and architectural grandeur. Designed by Albert Kahn, it was initially conceived as a multi-purpose space for student gatherings and commencement ceremonies but quickly became a central location for musical performances.
The auditorium’s design incorporates elements inspired by ancient Greek amphitheaters and features a distinctive barrel-vaulted ceiling constructed with Guastavino tile. Throughout its history, Hill Auditorium has hosted a wide range of internationally acclaimed artists and ensembles across various disciplines, establishing itself as a significant cultural landmark within the region and beyond. It continues to serve as a primary venue for the University Musical Society’s presentations.
