Sax Gordon, born Gordon Stevenson, is a British saxophonist renowned for his energetic and authentic performances rooted in rhythm and blues, jump blues, and early rock and roll. His style frequently draws comparisons to performers like Louis Jordan and Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson, emphasizing a robust tone and improvisational flair. He has maintained a consistent presence in the European blues and R&B scene for decades, releasing numerous albums and touring extensively.
Jass Club, located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, France, holds a significant place in the city’s jazz history. Established in 1951 by Alain Routier, it was one of the first jazz clubs in Paris to consistently present American jazz musicians during the post-war era. Notably, it provided a crucial platform for artists like Sidney Bechet, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk early in their European careers. The club is characterized by its intimate setting and dedication to traditional jazz forms while also occasionally showcasing contemporary artists within the genre. Throughout its history Jass Club has remained independently operated & focused on live performance. It continues to operate as a venue dedicated to preserving & promoting jazz music.
