Experience Sam Amidon live on August 2nd
Sam Amidon is a Vermont-based musician known for his distinctive interpretations of traditional American folk music, particularly Appalachian ballads and shape-note singing. His style incorporates elements of jazz, contemporary classical, and electronic music, often utilizing looping and vocal processing alongside banjo, guitar, and fiddle. Amidon’s work frequently deconstructs and reimagines traditional songs, focusing on vocal texture and harmonic exploration rather than strict adherence to original arrangements. He has released several critically acclaimed albums and collaborated with artists across diverse genres.
Skibbereen Courthouse, the venue for the performance, is a significant historical building in West Cork, Ireland. Originally constructed in 1841 as part of the Irish courthouse system under British rule, it served as a centre for local administration and justice for over 150 years. The building witnessed numerous trials and public hearings during periods of social and political upheaval including the Land War and the Irish War of Independence. Following a period of disuse after court functions were transferred elsewhere, it underwent extensive restoration in the early 2000s.
