Experience Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra live on September 23rd
The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (RCO) is renowned for its distinctive sound, often characterized by a rich, warm tone and a pronounced clarity of texture. Historically rooted in the late-Romantic tradition, the orchestra maintains a broad repertoire spanning from Baroque to contemporary works, though it is particularly celebrated for its interpretations of composers like Mahler, Strauss, and Brahms. The RCO operates as an independent institution, supported by donations and public funds.
The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the venue for the September 23, 2026 performance, opened in 1888 and is widely considered one of the world’s greatest concert halls. Its exceptional acoustics are a result of its shoebox shape and specific dimensions – approximately 44.5 meters long, 28.5 meters wide, and 15 meters high. The hall was designed by architect Pierre Cuypers, also known for Amsterdam Central Station and the Rijksmuseum.
Throughout its history, the Concertgebouw has been intrinsically linked with the RCO; the orchestra has held a permanent residency there since its inception. The hall's interior features elaborate ornamentation and murals created by Dutch artists of the time.
