Royal Choral Society will perform at Temple Church, London on June 23, 2026. The Royal Choral Society is a large mixed choir with a long-standing tradition of performing significant choral works, particularly those from the Romantic and 20th-century repertoire, alongside standard classics. They are known for undertaking ambitious performances of large-scale pieces often featuring substantial orchestral accompaniment.
Temple Church is a historic church in the City of London, built by the Knights Templar in the 12th century. Originally constructed as the English headquarters church of this powerful medieval military order, it retains significant architectural features from its original construction and subsequent rebuildings. Notably, it’s comprised of two distinct sections: the Round Church, built in the 1180s and inspired by the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, and the rectangular Nave constructed between 1240 and 1260.
The church has strong associations with legal history; barristers belonging to the Inner and Middle Temples still attend services there regularly. Its unique acoustics have also made it a popular venue for choral performances and recordings over many years.
