The Chicago Theatre originally opened on November 23, 1921, and was conceived by brothers A. Atwell and Harry M. Thomas as one of a chain of opulent movie palaces. Designed by architects C. Howard Crane and George L. Rapp, it is noted for its elaborate French Baroque interior and grand marquee. Initially a venue for vaudeville and motion pictures, it experienced decline in the mid-20th century before being saved from demolition in 1986 by a city-led restoration project.

Today, The Chicago Theatre operates as a performing arts venue hosting a variety of events including concerts, Broadway shows, comedy acts and film screenings.
