Walsh Farm in Oak Hill, West Virginia, is a working farm with a significant historical connection to the state’s musical heritage. It was the birthplace and childhood home of groundbreaking bluegrass musician Frank Hutchison (1905-1964). Hutchison was one of the first white musicians to openly record with Black string band musicians in the 1920s, challenging racial segregation through collaborative music making. The farm has been preserved by his family and operates as both an agricultural space and a site dedicated to celebrating Hutchison's legacy and promoting Appalachian culture. Preservation efforts aim to maintain the farm’s original structures and landscape. A concert taking place there acknowledges this history and provides a unique setting for musical performance.
