Rhiannon Giddens is a critically acclaimed American singer, musician, and songwriter who explores the intersections of various musical genres, most notably American roots music. Her work frequently incorporates elements of folk, blues, jazz, country, and traditional African American music – particularly banjo playing and song traditions – often with a focus on historical research and reclaiming obscured narratives. She is known for her powerful vocals and virtuosic multi-instrumentalism.
The Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth College serves as a leading performing arts center in the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire and Vermont. Opened in 1962, it was conceived as a hub for artistic expression and education, intended to bring world-class performances to the Dartmouth campus and surrounding communities. The Center encompasses several performance spaces including Spaulding Auditorium, Moore Theater, and the Loew Auditorium, hosting events ranging from theater and dance to music and opera.
The Hopkins Center’s architecture is notable as an early example of Brutalist design by Wallace Harrison & Abramson. Throughout its history it has presented a diverse array of artists and fostered collaborations between students, faculty, and visiting professionals.
