Classical Concerts in New York

Experience Rafael Payare live on November 4th

Rafael Payare will conduct a performance at David Geffen Hall in New York City on November 4, 2026. Payare is a Venezuelan conductor known for his vibrant and emotionally resonant interpretations, often praised for clarity and a focus on orchestral color. His repertoire spans a wide range, from standard classical works to contemporary compositions and Latin American music – reflecting his heritage – and he frequently champions lesser-known composers. He is currently Music Director of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Principal Conductor of the Ulster Orchestra.

David Geffen Hall is the home of the New York Philharmonic. Originally opened in 1962 as Philharmonic Hall, it underwent significant renovations throughout its history, most notably a major overhaul completed in 2022 led by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects. These renovations aimed to improve acoustics and modernize the concert experience, addressing long-standing criticisms about the hall’s sound quality. The hall’s design emphasizes flexibility and intimacy, moving away from the shoebox shape favored by many traditional concert halls. It has hosted countless prominent musicians and ensembles since its inception, solidifying its place as a central venue for orchestral music in New York City.
