Gesù, located in Montreal’s historic district, is a former church built between 1855 and 1857 in the Gothic Revival style. Originally named Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church, it underwent significant architectural changes following a fire in 1900, resulting in its current Neo-Gothic appearance designed by architect Joseph-Arthur Villeneuve. The building ceased functioning as a church in 1993 and was subsequently repurposed as a concert and event venue. Its acoustics are notably well-suited for chamber music and vocal performances due to its original design and later modifications focused on enhancing sound quality.
