Punch Brothers will perform at Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City, Iowa on September 16, 2026. The group is recognized for their innovative approach to bluegrass music, blending traditional instrumentation – banjo, mandolin, guitar, fiddle, and bass – with influences from jazz, classical, and progressive rock. Their compositions are characterized by complex arrangements, virtuosic playing, and thoughtful lyrical content often exploring themes of mortality and the human condition. Formed in 2006 as a continuation of the band Nickel Creek’s instrumental explorations, Punch Brothers have received widespread critical acclaim and multiple Grammy Award nominations.

Hancher Auditorium originally opened in 1972 and serves as the premier performing arts venue for the University of Iowa and the surrounding community. Following substantial flood damage in 2008, a new Hancher Auditorium opened in 2016. The current facility is renowned for its acoustics and architectural design, hosting a diverse range of performances including Broadway shows, dance companies, orchestral concerts, and contemporary musical acts. It is designed to accommodate approximately 2,500 patrons and features state-of-the-art technical capabilities.
