Poncho Sanchez is a renowned American conga player and bandleader celebrated for his vibrant and energetic Latin jazz performances. His music blends traditional Afro-Cuban rhythms with elements of jazz, soul, and Latin American influences. Sanchez gained prominence after joining Tito Puente’s ensemble in the 1980s and has since built a substantial solo career, releasing numerous albums and receiving multiple Grammy nominations, winning in 2009 for “La Llave.” His performances are known for their improvisational spirit and infectious energy.

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, located in downtown Las Vegas, opened in 2012 as a significant cultural hub for the city. Developed through public and private funding, it was envisioned to diversify Las Vegas’ entertainment offerings beyond gaming and shows on the Strip. The complex comprises three primary venues: Reynolds Hall, a 2,048-seat orchestral hall; The Showroom, a more intimate 575-seat cabaret venue; and Myron’s Cabaret Jazz, a smaller 250-seat space.

The Smith Center hosts a wide range of performances including Broadway shows, concerts, dance recitals, opera, and other cultural events.
